The Grand Prix de Cadours was run over two heats and a total of 70 laps. Carel finished second behind Frenchman Andrι Loens in a Maserati 200S in both heats and therefore was also second overall. He was class winner, some 50 seconds behind Loens after more than two and a half hours. Claude Storez was third overall and runner up in the class up to 1500 cc driving another Porsche 550 Spyder.

Based on the results people could not imagine how this event was like. Cornelie, Carel's sister, explained how it went: "We arrived at night. In the garage we saw Ferraris and Maseratis. Real race cars. I wanted to leave, but Carel insisted we should stay. Why watched practice for a while, but then Carel jumped in his Porsche 550 Spyder and went for a lap himself. The speaker went crazy and the entire village was cheering. Carel just broke the track record!"

Cornelie continues: "Because of his spirited driving my brother killed the gearbox. Even Carel himself confessed he was driving like a maniac. Otherwise he would have won the race. He became second after the Maserati 200S, but in front of all the big beasts. After the race Carel went back to Stuttgart, where he was told by Huschke von Hanstein to treat his cars with more care".
