Carel started in the sportscar race that was won by Hans Herrmann in a works Borgward 1500RS. It was a tough battle for 2nd place. Carel swapped positions untill the end of the race with Fritz Juttner (Borgward), John Campbell-Jones (Lotus) and Ernst Vogel, who drove a Porsche 550 RS Spyder as well. To finish 3rd was a great achievement by Carel. But the funny thing was that Carel lent a car to his good friend Richard von Frankenberg again, just as in 1957 at Aspern. And Richard won again! Not in the Spyder this year, but in Carel's Carrera. They had a blast for two years in a row.
