The 2000 Guineas coincided with the Crystal Palace Trophy so the entries were split between the two events. Thirteen Formula 1 cars turned up for qualifying. Carel performed well in practice with the sixth time, but in the race he had to settle for ninth, only keeping Burgess’ Cooper behind him.
Surtees led from start to finish in the Bowmaker Lola-Climax.
