The 1962 edition of the British Grand Prix would go down in the books as one of the dullest in history. The biggest event probably being Innes Ireland failing to make the start from first row and watching Jim Clark disappear in the distance, as did everybody else. Surtees had the best view of the Lotus’ rear end and finished second.
Carel wasn’t as well on the pace as he had been during the opening races of the season and had to settle for 14th, no less than six laps behind the winner.
One of the six times the British crowd had a chance to compare Carel's old-fashioned Porsche to the revolutionary Lotus 25 of Jim Clark.
