Many teams saw the International Trophy as practice for the British Grand Prix in July, so there was a big turn-up at Silverstone. Even Ferrari wanted to see how their new design would do against the British, especially Lotus. The answer was clear: they had to bow to Chapman and Clark. Although Surtees’ Ferrari was able to keep up until an oil leak ended Italian aspirations it was McLaren's Cooper that split the Lotuses, with Trevor Taylor coming in third.
Carel was far from a repeat of his Sicilian result and had to settle for 17th in practice and ninth and last in the race.
