Porsche 718 (201)

No: 32

Q: 19

R: 9

C: GP

As a result of the sponsorship Carel had secured for himself, Ecurie Maarsbergen was renamed ‘Ecurie Pan American’, after his sponsor, the American airline. The Ecurie even entered a second car, the ex-Filipinetti 202, for Gerhard Mitter. Mitter outqualified his team leader while Carel qualified last. Mitter, half a second faster, was in 16th spot.

On race day Clark was well off the starting line and first into Tarzan from pole, while Gurney fluked his start and had a lot of catching up to do, getting off the line last. During the rest of the race Clark eased away in the distance and Gurney caught up with every car but the Lotus, finishing second, but a full lap down to the victorious Scotsman.

In his first Grand Prix for the Ecurie Mitter did not finish due to clutch failure on lap two. Carel finished ninth, five laps down.
