Being a non-championship race, the Solitude Grand Prix attracted a large field of privateers with a just few works cars from Team Lotus and Brabham's new team. All and all there were 27 starters amongst which Carel, who claimed 13th on the grid. Ecurie Maarsbergen entered a second car for Gerhard Mitter, who managed to qualify the ex-Filipinetti car two places ahead of his team owner.
In the race Brabham never gave away his lead, and his race was made a lot easier when Jim Clark and Trevor Taylor ran into trouble. Brabham won with a 25-second lead over Team Lotus' third driver Peter Arundell.
Carel was 7th, a lap down from the winner, while Mitter outran his 'boss' in fifth.
